Dark Sun Gwyndolin

Description

The youngest child of Gwyn, Gwyndolin, the Dark Sun, is the sole deity lingering in Anor Londo, the others having abandoned the city long ago, and Gwyndolin with it. Born with an affinity for the moon, a feminine trait, Gwyndolin was raised as a daughter, a contrast to his father and siblings who all were aligned with the sun, setting him apart from birth. Weak and frail, Gwyndolin is ashamed of his appearance, choosing to hide away and be forgotten rather than reveal himself, unable to compare to his brother, a god of war, and sister, the priestess beloved by all, he deems himself a failiure to his father's legacy. Yet, with all others gone, the duty to maintain the Age of Fire has fallen to him, and carry it out he shall, in honour of his father's memory, even if he must manipulate and, if necessary, destroy.

When designing this image, I chose to present Gwyndolin in an action pose, as he is when he is fought in Gwyn's tomb. I wanted to show that, despite his fragility, he is fully capable of fighting back with graceful ferocity, hurling a barrage of magic and arrows your way as you chase him down the endless hallway. While he can be defeated with relative easy, the same applies to the player; the Homing Soulmass and arrow volley attacks will kill you quickly if your not careful, making Gwyndolin a dangerous threat alongside the other bosses of Dark Souls.

Personally, I find Gwyndolin to be a particularly tragic character, despite the actions he has taken. He has been an outcast within his own family, due to his mutated appearance and affinity for the moon, thus psychologically scarring him and leaving him feeling unworthy of taking on the mantle of his father and siblings. Instead, he chooses to hide behind an illusion within his father's tomb, abandoned and alone. This makes him a surprisingly sympathetic character, more complex than at first glance.

P.S Sorry for the somewhat uneven lines around the pillars, I had to replace the pencil lines with colour from the Photoshop brush.

Disclaimer: I do not own Dark Souls.

Yes, he is, according to speculation, manipulating you. Personally, I don't feel sorry for who he is, but for the boy he once was.

As for the snakes instead of legs...I have no idea why he is like that, considering his father and siblings look relatively normal.
